Introduction to Khandala, India
Many residents of Mumbai, India seek refuge from their chaotic city in the nearby hill station of Khandala. This hill station stands at a 625m altitude at the foot of the Sahyadris Mountains, which are part of the Western Ghats. Khandala hotels range from low budget to mid-range accommodations along with a handful of top ranked luxury resorts. Karla Hills and Duke's Nose are the most popular local rock climbing spots, and those who reach the summit of Duke's Nose are rewarded with unforgettable views of the surrounding Bhor Ghat region. Shingroba Temple is Khandala's most significant religious building. The impressive Lohgad Fort was originally constructed to hold prisoners, while Raimachi Fort is surrounded by valleys, gardens, and other greenery. Even more greenery surrounds the spectacular 100m-high Kune Falls. The fascinating Bhaja and Karla caves were first established nearly 2,000 years ago. This hill station is conveniently located on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, and the most recommended time to visit is between October and May.
