Introduction to Hyderabad - Ameerpet
Hyderabad is a 400-year-old city with plenty of colour and a nice location on the Music River. Unlike many other Indian cities, however, it offers relatively little to attract tourists and is primarily visited by foreigners with commercial interests. Some of the architecture is quite flamboyant, and hotels in Ameerpet are ideally located for the many software programming schools based in this commercial hub. The downtown core is quite a trek from here, being 10kms away through lots of traffic, but the recently-opened new airport benefits from modern expressways. Another airport is just minutes to the east, but unfortunately no longer operates. A large lake, Hussain Sagar, is a few minutes down the road. This historic body of water dates from 1562. The nearby Tank Bund road was also built in the 16th century. The local mosque and the Tomb of Saidani Maa Saheba are two of the most important sites in the area.
