One of the newest cities in India's Gujarat State is Gandhidham, originally created in the 1950s to house Pakistani refugees. Today, it's one of the fastest developing cities in the state. Visitors won't find anything in the way of ancient traditional India in Gandhidham. The city is laid out in a grid pattern with organised concrete buildings and wider-than-average roads. There is a complete array of services and restaurants in the city along with good rail connections to larger cities inland. Gandhidham hotels tend to be scattered around the greener outskirts of town though there are some near the train and bus stations that offer convenience over ambiance. Shinai Lake is just minutes outside of town to the west, offering a pleasant place to relax or take a swim. The latest movies can be enjoyed at Om Cinema Complex or grab some shopping at the modern Madhuban Farsai Centre.
