In central India's Chhattisgarh State is the agricultural town of Durg. Located on the eastern banks of the Seonath River, this culturally-rich place offers visitors one of the most colourful experiences in the country through the traditional dance, music and craftsmanship of the local people. There is little in the way of tourist attractions or infrastructure in Durg itself, but the region offers plenty for travellers to see and do. Maitribagh, a huge park complex with a zoo, an animal park and musical fountains, is a major attraction here. Ancient Hindu and Jain temples can also be explored here, such as Hanumanji Temple, Sidhi Vinayaka Temple and the Pasharwanath Tirth Jain temple complex. A great day out can be had at Dhamdha, with its many old palaces, or head to Tandula for a relaxing picnic. For shopping or a more modern meal out, the Civic Centre is the best bet.
