Over the centuries, the city was invaded several times and in the 12th century, Mohammed Ghori from Afghanistan defeated Prithvi Raj and ruled Delhi for a short period before Alla-ud-din Khilji took control. In 1303, Khilji fought the Rajputs at Siri and founded Delhi's second city.
