Introduction to Delhi - City Centre - Old Delhi
With a population of over 16 million, Delhi is the largest city in India after Mumbai. Delhi city centre is a vibrant part of the Indian capital. Steeped in history, this central district offers plenty of attractions to the visitor. Delhi city centre hotels are plentiful, with the bulk of them clustered around Rajiv Chowk metro station. There are a large number of UNESCO World Heritage sites to explore, including the Mughal Emperor Humayun's Tomb, the 17th century Red Fort and the Qutb complex, which spans dozens of monuments constructed over centuries. The minaret in the Qutb complex is the largest free-standing brick structure in the world. Other impressive landmarks of the city include the India Gate, the Akshardham Temple and the Lotus Temple. Other city landmarks depict the history of the British Raj during the colonial days. A good example is the North Block building, which is still being used by the government.
