Dehej is a tiny port town on the southwest coast of India's Gujarat State. There is very little here in the way of tourist infrastructure or amenities and no attractions other than the beaches along the coast on the Bay of Bengal. Dehej lies at the end of the road from Bharuch, the largest town in the area. Since there are few if any hotels in Dehej, visitors would do well to plan to stay in Bharuch, an hour inland. Unfortunately, the beaches around the town are not much good and are undeveloped. However, the area offers some excellent ancient sites like Swaminarayan Temple and Bhrigu Rishi Temple, both famous Hindu pilgrimage sites located on the banks of the holy river Narmada. Visitors can see many interesting local rituals along the riverside, most notably at Dashashwamedh Ghat, which is also home to several ancient temples. Another interesting spot is Kabirvad, an island in the Marmada River that is home to Banyan tress. One of these majestic trees covers an astonishing 2.5 acres of land.
