Introduction to Bellary, India
Bellary is a historic city in India's Karantaka State. The landscape around the town is dominated by two massive granite outcroppings known as the Ballari Gudda and the Kumbara Gudda. Atop Ballari Gudda is Fort Bellary, a sprawling 18th-century stone fortress that is open to the public. This is the main attraction here and a wonderfully romantic place to explore, with several stone buildings and great views over the town. Bellary Zoo covers more than two hectares and contains a children's park. Also within the town are several public parks that offer a pleasantly green contrast to the arid desert surroundings. Kuntegadda Park is the best of the bunch and definitely worth a visit. A number of Hindu temples of varying ages can be explored in and around the city, and the city museum is a good place to learn more about the roots of this ancient town before heading out to the fort or temples.
