Introduction to Ankleshwar, India
The small Gujarat city of Ankleshwar is best known as the location of the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC), one of Asia's largest industrial townships. With more than 5,000 chemical plants in town, visitors should expect little in the way of tourist amenities and an unpleasantly large amount of pollution. The city is well connected to the rest of India by rail and road, and the 130-year-old Golden Bridge provides easy access to neighbouring Bharuch, just across the water. Ankleshwar's public parks, such as Millennium Park and GIDC Water Reservoir, are perhaps the best attractions here. For shopping, Chauta Bazaar and Sardar Park offer an expansive range of small shops and large department stores. The nicest hotels in Ankleshwar can be found along Station Road in the city centre. While most of the modern amenities are located within GIDC, the old section of Ankleshwar is where visitors can experience a taste of more traditional India.
