Introduction to Alwar, India

Famous for its scenic landscapes and rich historic legacy, the city of Alwar provides an excellent base for travellers exploring India's Rajasthan State. From the striking hillside stone complex at Neemrana to Alwar Fort, there are dozens of important historic sites in and around the city spanning several periods of Indian rule. Set within a lovely valley with Siliserh Lake at one end, the city offers plenty of options for outdoor excursions. One of India's best wildlife parks, Sariskar Tiger Reserve, is just outside of town in the rolling Aravalli Hills. Alwar is a small city, making it easy to move around on foot or with the help of a rickshaw while looking for restaurants and interesting little shops in the markets. Head to Hope Circus, Bajaja Bazaar or Sarrafa Bazaar to check out the famous silverwork and Rajasthani handicrafts.
