Things To Do

Things To Do in Reykjavik
Visit the Pearl (Perlan): a pleasant walk up to the peak of Oskjuhlid Hill through gardens that include an artificial geyser in their list of attractions, takes you to Reykjavik’s most famous architectural sight and something of an engineering feat, the Pearl. This remarkable glass structure was built in 1991 to highlight the importance of geothermal activity in Iceland.
There are six vast hot water tanks, spurting fountains, a viewing dome as well as a revolving restaurant with some excellent food. The interesting Saga Museum with its recreations of Icelandic history is located on the ground floor.
You won’t find many really exotic tropical animals, so think more reindeers, foxes and seals, than lions and polar bears. It is possibly to do some horseback riding here and feeding time in the seal enclosure is one of the most fun things to see. The nearby family park with a number of rides and activities adds to the fun for the kids.
Take a dip in the Geothermal Pool: geothermal pools and the so called hot pots (Heiti Potturinn) play an important role in Icelandic culture and you should certainly visit one at least once during your stay here. Some of these pools are seriously hot, with temperatures up to 44°C, and locals believe there are medical benefits.
