Blue Lagoon: is located on the Reykjanes peninsula around 30 miles to the southwest of Reykjavik. The lagoon here was actually created by accident with the run-off water from a power station, into the lava field. It is now a popular place to relax and there are said to be great health benefits, especially for skin conditions.
The geothermal seawater is very mineral rich and people flock here in their droves. It is possible to get a de-stressing massage here, and also to buy some beauty products, such as mud from the lake. Whatever the health benefits might be, the 37-39°C water is very soothing, if you’re into serious relaxation you should take a trip here.
Geothermal activity is probably what Iceland is most famous for, and the area around Geysir (said to be the original that led to the name geyser) has plenty to witness. Geysir itself no longer erupts, but the nearby Strokker does. There are also some hot springs in the area. There are a number of companies offering organised tours, but with your own vehicle you could embark on it independently.
