Introduction to Reykjavik - Teigar
Just north of Reykjavik, Iceland's city centre, lies the district of Teigar. Teigar hotels are among the most upscale in this city where accommodation tends to cost more than average, but their location is within walking distance of most Reykjavik attractions. Among the main attractions within Teigar's boundaries is Laugarneskirkja, a church whose unique exterior was designed by influential Icelandic architect Guojon Samuelsson in 1949. The Laugarneskirkja is an even more attractive sight after it is illuminated each night. Teigar is also home to one of the three buildings which comprise Reykjavik Art Museum. The Asmundarsafn building is dedicated to the sculptures and other works of artist Asmundur Sveinsson, who also designed its dome roofed building. The Asmundarsafn, which served as both the artist's studio and home during his lifetime, was finished shortly after his death in 1982.
