Introduction to Mosfellsbaer, Iceland

The community of Mosfellsbaer may be just 12kms east of Reykjavik, but it is still one of the country's greenest and most athletic towns. In addition to many Mosfellsbaer hotels, the town contains a campsite and at least four farm accommodations where visitors can relax in rural settings while remaining relatively close to urban Reykjavik. The town includes two locations to rent horses as well as two golf courses named Bakkakot and Kjolur. The main attraction here for thousands of visitors may be the alafoss wool museum and factory outlet, but the former home of Nobel Prize winner and author Halldor Laxness has also become a popular place to visit. Not only can visitors stroll along the numerous footpaths the town has to offer, they can learn more about Mosfellsbaer from reading the many signs placed along the trails. Visitors can even walk or cycle to the Reykjavik boundary if they so choose. Three rivers called Varma, Leirvogsa and Kaldakvisl meet here, and they all empty into the nearby Leiruvogur Cove.
