Things to do in Iceland
Keflavik - chill out in the hot healing waters of the Blue Lagoon
One of the best things to do whilst you are in Keflavik is to take time out and relax in the Blue Lagoon. This is a man made lagoon that uses water that has been used in the nearby geothermal power plant. The water is not only completely clean but is also full of silicates that are famed for their ability to clear up skin problems or just leaving you silky smooth. The natural mud in the lagoon also offers similar healing properties and is completely free.Reykjavik - take a photography and sightseeing tour
Everyone likes a memento of their holiday so why not take a photographic tour of the region around Reykjavik and learn how to photograph the natural ice sculptures on the lakes and if you are very fortunate how to photograph the stunning Northern Lights. The local guides know exactly where to take you at the best times of the day for events such as sunrise and sunset for those extra special photographs.Reykjavik - go on an informative Reykjavik bike tour
A great way to see Reykjavik quickly and get an idea what to go back to and spend more time on later is to take one of the organized bicycle tours. The city is ideally laid out for bicycles and the absence of any big hills makes it an enjoyable tour for the less energetic. Most of the tours last about 2 ½ hours.Reykjavik - relax in the Laugardalur Park
Icelanders love their water, and an opportunity to relax is after a day’s sightseeing, is by joining them in the local swimming pool. There are also hot tubs to get rid of those persistent aches and pains, one of them is shallow enough to lie down in completely. The pool at Laugardalur Park is almost Olympic size, so you can also exercise, if you feel so inclined. Introduction to Iceland
Iceland is one of Europe's lesser-visited destinations, but its stunning scenery and desolate terrain make the trip north worth it. Most visitors tend to stay around the southwest of the country, in and around the capital, Reykjavik. Its quaint old town is easy to cover on foot, while there are a number of natural attractions within easy reach. The capital is one of the best places in the country to go whale-watching, while some fantastic mountain hiking can be found just outside the city, at Esjan. There are some excellent pubs and bars in the city, but they can be expensive. As such, many locals socialise at geo-thermal pools instead-great places for visitors to get a taste of the local culture. Outside the capital, visitors have the opportunity to experience some of the most rugged scenery on the planet in the West Fjords, the lava fields of the north and the vast glacial interior, which is only accessible in summer. Iceland hotels are easy to find, yet generally basic. Guests should bring an eye mask in summer, when darkness can be measured in minutes rather than hours.Visit our Iceland Travel Guide
