Roughly 100kms from the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik lies Hella, a small village in the south of the country with around 750 residents. This lowland village is mainly used as a base for launching trips into the highlands of South Iceland, with adventure travel to the likes of Porsmork and Landmannalaugar possible from here. Hotels in Hella offer scenic views of the surrounding volcanoes and glaciers and the River Rang, which passes through the village and is a hotspot for salmon fishing.
