Bathing: if you forgot to pack your bathing costume on a trip to Heviz then get ready for major disappointment. The number one activity in the town is to bathe in the warm waters of the lake for hours on end for relaxation and the perceived health benefits its unique composition is supposed to offer.
Dining out: thanks to its lifestyle of relaxation and viticulture, Heviz has developed an excellent restaurant circuit that extends into Egregy. A growing number of top-end restaurants can be found, many at the hotels and resorts, along with the independent eateries that present better value and very good csarda food, the local way of cooking that will seem typically Hungarian to the outsider with its penchant for meat stews and potato dishes.
Wine-tasting: when Heviz is not busy bathing, the number one attraction here is wine-tasting at the numerous wine cellars in Egregy. Simply make the short 1.5kms journey to the district on foot and then walk around the numerous vineyards dotted across the countryside here. Wines produced in Egregy have helped to establish Hungary’s growing reputation as a wine producer and are well worth an afternoon’s tasting.
