Introduction to Eger, Hungary
In northern Hungary, one of the most interesting cities to explore is Eger. It's the second-largest city in this region of the country and contains some great historic buildings, a castle and thermal hot springs. Dobo Square is a good place to get oriented as it lies right in the heart of the oldest part of town. The historic castle here deserves a lengthy visit, as do the charming, Baroque architecture-filled streets that wind off from the square. Eger also has several nice places of worship, including the northernmost Turkish minaret in the world, as well as historic Turkish baths dating back centuries. Eger hotels can be found throughout the city but the most impressive ones are situated downtown in grand old buildings.
