Introduction to Balatonlelle, Hungary

On the southern shore of Hungary's massive Lake Balaton is the resort town of Balatonlelle. This popular tourist destination has a lot of things to do and is packed to the gills during the peak of summer. The star attraction is its sandy beach, stretching for three kilometres right on the edge of the village. While this sand beach charges a nominal fee to get in, there is a grass beach just next door that is free to the public. Other fun outdoor recreation venues include a water park and a go-kart track. Every August, the annual wine festival comes to town, livening things up with live music, food and plenty of local wine. There are several bars in Balatonlelle that provide nightlife, but in general this is a quiet, relaxing resort town. Balatonlelle hotels range from budget hostels to luxury lakeside resorts but for a summer holiday, be sure and book rooms well in advance.
