For UK visitors planning on staying longer than 30 days, a 90-day tourist visa can be applied for at the closest Guatemalan consulate prior to arriving in the country. Requirements for a tourist visa include a completed application form for tourist visa, two passport sized photos, a valid passport, an onward air ticket or return ticket to country of origin, and bank statements over the course of three months prior to applying. Photocopies of valid credit cards may also be requested if applying in person.
Tourist visas typically take 1 to 2 days to process. Members of the following countries can extend for 90 days upon arrival in Guatemala without applying for a tourist visa in advance: Andorra, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Chile, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Israel, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland and Uruguay.
The most important step, as is true of all international travel, is to arrive with a valid passport with at minimum six months left on the expiry date. It is also vital to have one page of the passport free for both the entry and exit stamps of the country.
