Santorini Travel Guide - Getting There

By car: it’s possible to take your car along with you on a ferry to Santorini, although it can be expensive and not all ferries are equipped to handle vehicles. It is generally easier to hire a car once you have arrived on the island.

By rail: there’s no rail service on Santorini, but there are rail connections to Athens from a number of locations.
By bus: for travellers arriving in Athens by bus – or wishing to connect with a ferry from the bus station in central Athens - the number 40 bus from Syntagma square or the number 49 departing from Omonia square will take you to the ferry port at Piraeus harbour.
By ferry: daily services to Santorini are available from the Greek ports of Piraeus and Rafina. The island is 94 nautical miles from Piraeus and ferries from Piraeus arrive at Ormos Athinios Port. From the port there are bus connections to the island’s capital as well as to the beaches at Perissa and Kamari.
Local ferries use the port at Skala Firas or Ia. There are also regular services that connect Santorini with other islands in the Cyclades, as well as with Crete and Thessaloniki. All ferry services operate more frequently during the peak season.
