Archaeological Museum in Heraklion: this interesting museum houses some of the most important finds of the Minoan civilisation. There are a number of significant items here including the ‘Snake Goddesses’, figurines from the Palace of Knossos, Rock-crystal rhyton from the Palace of Zakros and the superb Rhyton bull’s head, among many other displays.

Archaeological Museum of Sitia: this archaeological museum is located on the road from Sitia to Ierapetra and has been open since the early 1980s. The exhibits here cover a span of 4,000 years up to 500AD, divided into four sections.
The Historical and Folklore Museum at Rethymno: this private museum is dedicated to historical and folklore items from all over Crete and was established in 1973. The museum is housed in an impressive restored Venetian building and is a good example of the sort of buildings from the Venetian ruling period in Crete. The large collection of over 5,000 items includes ceramics, metal work, photographs, maps, embroidery, weapons, and coins.

Archaeological Museum of Aghios Nikolaos: this museum was opened in 1970 to display many archaeological finds from eastern Crete. There are a range of items here from the Minoan periods as well as Geometric, Daidalic, Archaic and Roman finds. One of the most important finds is the ‘Goddess of Myrtos’, a vase in the shape of woman.
