Corfu Travel Guide
Ride the Corfu Train: Corfu’s tourist train is a great way to learn about the history of the island and to see some of the main sites, which you may then decide to visit in more detail. The 45-minute train ride sets off from the Spianada area, close to the Old Fort. The train passes by Paleopolis, the Church of St Jason and St Sosipater, the Ionian Academy (Corfu’s oldest university) and takes a coastal route which gives some good views.
Take a Boat Tour: to explore the island’s coast. This is a popular thing to do with boats available from Paleokastritsa beach (one of the most beautiful spots on Corfu). The guides are generally friendly and knowledgeable and the advantage of the small boats is that there are able to explore some of the island’s caves. You’ll also see plenty of fish in the clear water.
The old town is a lovely place to lose yourself in, walking through narrow streets, alleyways and open squares while you visit the attractions or simply laze around with a coffee and watch the world go by. In the height of summer, it is best to visit in the morning or late afternoon, when the temperature is slightly cooler.
Visit Paleokastritsa: Paleokastritsa is perhaps the most beautiful of Corfu’s beaches. The water is perfect for swimming and is particularly popular with families. There are boat trips available from here, including some glass bottomed ones.
