March/April Festivals
Easter: Easter is celebrated in Corfu as it is across Greece, but here it involves some interesting events such as ‘Pinia’ which involves a person splashing about in a barrel of water to collect some money.
May Festivals
The Union Anniversary: this is an event that is held every May and where people gather in Corfu Town to celebrate Corfu becoming part of Greece in 1864.
Garouna and Ano Gerakiana Festival: this is a 3-day event that takes place in the villages of Ano Gerakiana and Kato Garouna in August. There are a number of different cultural events and general celebrations.
Feast of Agios Spyridon: this event, also in August, takes place annually in Corfu Town and has a range of celebrations festivities in honour of Saint Spyridon, the patron saint of Corfu.
September Festivals
Corfu Festival: this is probably the most important festival of the year, taking place every September in Kerkyra. There are a number of concerts from the philharmonic orchestra as well as theatrical performances and other musical acts.
The Cricket Festival: a reminder of the British influence in Corfu is the annual cricket competition that sees local teams competing with those from England and Malta. Also held in September.
