Spectator sport: Corfu is not a prime destination for sports fans hoping to see some top quality sport, with football being the only feasible option. The local team, AO Kerkyra, play games at the National Stadium in Kerkyra (Corfu Town) and compete in the ‘A’ league of the Greek Football Championships. There are regular games here throughout the football season. There is also no need to worry about missing your own team as many of the bars here screen English and European football matches. Sailing: the Ionian Sea is considered something of a paradise for yachtsmen with typically calm, clear waters and there are opportunities to explore the areas around Corfu. There are hundreds of sailing boats available for rent here, with different specifications to suit. There are a number of marinas to be found around the island and the biggest one in Gouvia, close to Corfu Town, has 500 moorings. | |
