Introduction to Thasos, Greece
Thasos is a beautiful Greek island that can be found in Macedonia. It is still relatively unknown compared to other Greek islands and boasts spectacular mountain scenery and pretty little villages as well as fantastic beaches. The island has managed to keep hold of its traditional culture, and there are numerous historical sites just waiting to be explored. The busiest beach on the island is Patos Beach, which is two-kilometres long and relatively undeveloped. Visitors to this enchantingly beautiful beach will be able to take part in a wide range of water sports, and there are excellent Thasos hotels here, making this a great place to stay while exploring the island. Pefkari is quieter and also great for water sports. Kalami is one of the quietest beaches on Thasos and a fantastic place to go snorkelling. There are many hiking trails in the island that connects with the island's beaches and villages. The village of Kastro is well worth visiting as it is the oldest village on the island, with beautiful old buildings that have been restored. For a taste of the island's history, head for the Venetian castle ruins at the Limenaria of the Theologo mansions.
