Introduction to Sporades - Patitiri Port
One of the most serene islands in Greece's Sporades group is Alonissos, and the port of Patitiri is the capital and main gateway to this tranquil oasis. Patitiri may be the hometown of most Alonissos residents, but the Alonissos capital is gradually merging with a neighbouring village called Votsi. Unlike many Greek island villages, this is a recent settlement rebuilt on the location of the former Alonissos capital of Hora (Old Alonissos), which was destroyed by a 1965 earthquake. Although most Patitiri Port hotels, homes, and other buildings may be much newer than their counterparts on other Greek islands, they blend seamlessly with the natural beauty of the landscape. Most local history is exhibited inside the privately owned Mavrikis Folklore Museum, where artwork, traditional costumes, wine-making items, and war memorabilia are displayed. This port is encircled by pine trees and its small sandy beach boasts some of the Aegean Sea's cleanest waters. Excursion boats frequently depart from the port to the many small islets surrounding Alonissos as well as the marine park of Alonissos, where endangered Mediterranean monk seals live.other spellings: patitiir porthotels, patitrii port otel, patiitri port hotell, pattiiri port hote, paittiri port hotle
