Introduction to Skiathos - Aghia Paraskevi
Aghia Paraskevi is one of the most tranquil of the more than 60 sandy beaches on the Greek island of Skiathos, situated just a few kilometres from mainland Greece. This beach was named after a church which shares its name and is situated approximately halfway between Koukounaries and the town of Skiathos, the island's only permanent settlement. All Aghia Paraskevi hotels are mere steps from its long beach, whose sands are fine and golden and shore is covered with pine trees. These trees help protect this beach on the southern coast of Skiathos from the strong winds which often travel from the island's north coast. Aside from a few tavernas and cafes, there is little nightlife in Aghia Paraskevi, whose liveliest day of the year is the 26th of July. This is its traditional name day, which is celebrated by a religious feast known as Panighyri. Taxis, motorcycles, and rented vehicles can all easily drive the eight and a half kilometres to Skiathos town.
