Introduction to Rhodes - Archagelos
Archangelos is a small town on the island of Rhodes which manages to maintain the atmosphere of a traditional Greek village, compared to more modern areas of the island. The houses are painted in an assortment of bright colours, and Archangelos hotels also retain the charm of traditional Greek hospitality. Walking down the narrow side streets, visitors will find shops dedicated to the town's specialities, such as skilled pottery work and carpet making. In the village centre stands the church of St Michael Archangel, the patron saint and who the town is named after. On the surrounding hills are remains of the castle of Saint John, which was built by the Knights Hospitallers in a similar style to the Acropolis. Stegna beach is an ideal location for sunbathing and swimming, as the area is unspoilt and never overcrowded.
