Introduction to Peloponnese - Tolo
The Peloponnese village of Tolo, also frequently called Tolon, has a relatively recent history by Greek standards. However, the ancient Greek poet Homer first wrote about the scenic bay on which Tolo is situated long before the village was officially established in 1830. Today, the same bay which once provided refuge to countless battleships now contains dozens of Tolo hotels of various rankings and budgets. This is primarily a retirement community during the cold months, but the average age of its population decreases dramatically once its summer tourists arrive. The main beach is placed immediately next to its main road. The shops, restaurants, and bars lining its extended promenade are especially popular among its younger visitors.
