None of the beautiful beaches on the Greek island of Paros is longer than Chryssi Akti, whose name translates to Golden Beach in English. Most English speaking tourists call both this 700m beach on the coast of southeastern Paros and its nearby small village Golden Beach. Not surprisingly, most Chryssi Akti hotels are situated just steps from the beach. Golden Beach received its appropriate name not only because of the colour of its fine sand, but also because the sparkling of the sand's glass elements during the island's frequent sunny days. This beach is especially popular among surfers of all kinds because of its windy conditions and challenging waves. Surf schools stand alongside beach bars and intimate restaurants at Golden Beach, but even those who do not surf will enjoy the beach's stunning scenery and shallow waters. Even calmer waters surround the nearby unpopulated island called Drionisi, only accessible by boat.
