Introduction to Mykonos - Platis Gialos
Platis Gialos, sometimes spelled Platis Yialos, is one of the longest, busiest and most established beaches on the Greek island of Mykonos. Buses frequently make the six kilometre drive from Mykonos Town to the beach, a journey which lasts roughly 15 minutes. Platis Gialos is situated on the south coast of Mykonos, and most Platis Gialos hotels can be found just steps from the water. Accommodation prices often double during the busy summer high season between the middle of July and the end of August and booking in advance is strongly recommended during this time. Equally numerous on Platis Gialos are terraced tavernas, beach bars and restaurants. Jet-skiing is another popular beach activity here, so those bothered by the noise should bring earplugs or climb aboard one of the many small boats which regularly depart for smaller and more secluded beaches.
