Introduction to Kos - Aghios Fokas
The beach at Aghios Fokas is a mix of clean white sand that sits in stark contrast to another section of black sand from Nissyros Volcano. These contrasting colours, like yin and yang, are what give the beach its special appeal and make it the most distinctive cove on the island of Kos. The shore stretches for seven kilometres, all the way from Psailidi to Thermes, and because the sea is so deep, the wind surfing conditions are excellent. The water by the beach is also pleasantly warm as it is heated by the volcano, so temperatures are constantly between 40 and 47 degrees. The town itself has little going on, with a few shops, taverns and Aghios Fokas hotels. But for people who want more action, Fos town is only a short drive away. The so called Bar Street is one of the notorious attractions here, with its nightclubs and drinking establishments. Walks along the harbour offer a more laid back alternative.Visit our Kos Travel Guide
