Introduction to Galaxidi, Greece

The historic town of Galaxidi is one of central Greece's most popular destinations, especially with Greek holidaymakers. Just a short drive from the legendary Ancient Delphi, there are dozens of excellent restaurants, cafes, bars and shops. There are also nice beaches surrounding the harbour in Galaxidi, so visitors often come here to enjoy the rich mix of history, culture and the sea. The Maritime Museum is a good place to begin learning about the centuries of settlement around this important harbour. High above the town is the Monastery of the Metamorphosis, an interesting attraction for both the views and the history. Galaxidi hotels can be found both in the town and scattered among the surrounding foothills, with plenty of options due to the steady influx of Greek tourists. Just outside Galaxidi are two other interesting towns worth a visit. Pantes is a traditional Greek village right on a scenic pebble beach, while Itea is a bustling little city with lots of great shops, markets and restaurants.
