Introduction to Florina, Greece
In the mountainous northwestern region of Greece along the border with Macedonia is the town of Florina. Known as 'Where Greece Begins', this pleasant little mountain town is a great base for excursions into Macedonia or boating on the Prespa Lakes. To the southwest are the Verno Mountains and to the northwest are the Varnous Mountains. Florina is mainly a market town in this far-flung part of Greece, but it also has a bustling tourist trade during summers and winters, with visitors enjoying the wealth of outdoor recreation. The pedestrian-only Modi Square and Pavlou Mela Street are full of useful shops and decent cafes and bars that host a lively mix of tourists and locals. To learn more about this border area, check out the Byzantine Museum or the Archaeological Museum, both located downtown. Dozens of downtown hotels in Florina cater to the tourism crowd, ensuring plenty of accommodation choice in all budgets. For a night of gambling, there's even a casino located right above the city. other spellings: fleuranahotels, fleuriegn otel, flolan hotell, floliegn hote, frolan hotle, froliegn hotes
