Introduction to Crete - Panormos
The village of Panormos enjoys no fewer than 300 days of sunshine each year and is situated nearly 60kms west of Heraklion International Airport and 23kms east of Rethymnon on the Greek island of Crete. There are two separate beaches between the three scenic and small coves on the shoreline, and each of these beaches has its own Panormos hotels. The small harbour shelters the main beach from the wind, while the second beach lies just west of the village of Panormos. The waters at both beaches are shallow and safe. A dive school recently opened here, and visitors can also rent small fishing vessels by the day or the hour. This village may not have as large a population as Rethymnon or Heraklion, but it still includes fair amounts of unique shops, tavernas, bars, and cafes. Most of these establishments are located either near the harbour or along the village's cobbled streets.
