Introduction to Crete - Almyrida Apokoronou
The Greek village and beach resort of Almyrida Apokoronou, often known simply as Almyrida, is situated on the island of Crete's northwest coast, about 25kms from the bigger community of Crete. Although Almyrida Apokoronou hotels may not be as plentiful as in other Crete beach resorts, this former village provides a quiet and relaxing environment free from the rowdy nightlife found in many other parts of the area. However, visitors will never run out of things to do here, especially along its two sandy beaches, each with its own waterside taverns and each featuring shallow waters safe for young children to swim in. These beaches are also ideal for people with disabilities because they are so easy to access from the main road. Another beach with a pebbly shoreline is an especially popular snorkelling spot. Eating is another popular activity in this village, which is known for its delicious food. Not surprisingly, seafood is a common menu item at many restaurants, and fresh fruit and complimentary Greek pastries are usually served for dessert. Most bars mainly serve coffee during the day, but transform into cocktail bars after sunset.Visit our Crete Travel Guide
