Introduction to Crete - Aghia Fotia
Aghia Fotia, Greece, is a tiny beach town often spelled Agia Fotia and situated on the shores of southeastern Crete. This community boasts one of the quietest locations on the entire island, and visitors must drive down a steep hill to reach it. There are not many Aghia Fotia hotels as most visitors come on daytrips, but there are apartments for rent as well as rooms available in tavernas and private homes. Tall pine trees surround the village, but the tranquil sandy beach backed by magnificent mountains is the biggest attraction here. Sun beds and umbrellas are available to rent beneath this beach, which measures between 150m and 200m long. The bay is among the prettiest in southeast Crete and the beach is one of the most tranquil on the whole island. Although a 1993 fire destroyed several of the pine trees which once grew along the Butterfly Gorge trail between this village and Koutsouras, this is still a breathtaking hike between mountains where visitors can encounter many beautiful waterfalls and streams.Visit our Crete Travel Guide
