Introduction to Corfu - Agios Gordios
Located on the western coast of the Greek island of Corfu, the resort town of Agios Gordos nestles at the foot of the verdant mountains that dominate the area. The town sits atop cliffs that provide a commanding view of the gentle bay, while the scents of cypress, sage, pine and citrus waft along on the breeze. Hotels in Agios Gordios cover an impressive range of budgets and styles, from fun but affordable backpacker dorms to high-priced luxury resorts. The sun, sand and sea provide much of the enjoyment here, as the brilliant blue ocean hosts all manner of water sports; the beach here even has a dive centre. The town provides most amenities within easy reach. For a bit of culture and non-beach scenery, tourists can reach three traditional villages, Pentati, Kato Garouna and Sinaredes, within just three kilometres. The airport at Kerkira is only 20 minutes to the north. Kynopiastes, which is only 10 minutes away, is considered a must-see. The town contains several impressive mansions built between the 17th and 19th centuries, as well as a 17th-century monastery and a marble church. Achilleion, which is about five minutes farther away, is home to a great palace, built in 1890.Visit our Corfu Travel Guide
