The Athens district of Psiri, also spelled Psyrri on occasion, was once considered a lower class neighbourhood with a shady reputation. In recent years, Psiri has transformed into one of the most up-and-coming places in Athens, and is considered one of the most authentically Greek parts of the city. Although there are only a handful of Psiri hotels, most of them are good quality alternatives to their counterparts in the neighbouring districts of Monastiraki and Plaka. Most attractions in Psiri are very well hidden, but those willing to search for them will find dozens of unique antique shops, art galleries, cafes, ouzo restaurants, theatres and traditional Greek taverns where live musicians frequently perform. Restaurants which feature live music tend to be more expensive than those without live entertainment. However, night time is when the district truly comes alive.
