Introduction to Athens - Kallithea
Kallithea lies just southwest of downtown Athens and is the fourth-largest municipality in the greater Athens area. By itself, this is Greece's second-most densely populated city and the eighth-biggest community in the entire country. The modern city of Kallithea was first created shortly before the 1896 Summer Olympics, and several Athens Olympic events took place here in both 1896 and 2004. Kallithea hotels are situated not far from most Athens attractions, but in quieter locations than those nearer Athens city centre. The heart of this municipality is called Davaki Square and lies only three kilometres from the central squares of both Athens and Piraeus. The local art gallery is housed within one of the city's first building, known as Laskaridou, while the Aghia Eleousa church dates from the late Byzantine era. The Tactual Museum of Athens gives visually impaired visitors the opportunity to examine carefully restored replicas of artefacts from all eras of Greek history.Visit our Athens Travel Guide
