Introduction to Asprovalta, Greece

In the coastal area of northern Greece is the town of Asprovalta. The town's beach is the main reason most travellers come here. It is long and sandy, with good water for swimming and a lively scene during the peak holiday periods. A pleasant promenade runs along much of the beach at Asprovalta, giving visitors a perfect place to take a walk or watch the sunset. There are plenty of hotels in Asprovalta to choose from, ranging from trendy beachfront accommodation to self-catering apartments a few blocks off the water. Besides the beach, there are several excellent historic sites nearby that are worth checking out. The Byzantine castle of Rentina and the post-Byzantine church of Agia Marina are just minutes away and lovely examples of period architecture. An excursion to the top of Agio Oros, the Holy Mountain of this region, is another good trip, as is the museum and archaeological site at Ampfipolis. Those with pensive inclinations may want to visit Stagira, the birthplace of Aristotle, which has been preserved as a historic site.
