Introduction to Aegina - Aegina Town
Aegina is the closest of the islands in the Saronic Gulf to the Greek capital of Athens. A good supply of ferries, including some fast boats, makes the island popular with both foreign visitors and people living in Athens. Cruise ships also stop at the island, particularly at Hydra. Hotels in Aegina Town enjoy a convenient location on the eastern coast of the island, making it also easy to reach from the islands and mainland to the west. International visitors will find it quite fun to fly into Athens and quickly reach the island, which is only 17kms from the Greek capital. It is only slightly more than 80 square kilometres in area, making it relatively easy to tour. An impressive archaeological site is located just five minutes by foot north of the town, where it overlooks the sea, making a fine place for a picnic. Another fantastic set of ruins sits on a hill above Agia Marina, about 20 minutes across the island. Perdika, a pretty little fishing village at the southern end of the island, takes less than 15 minutes to reach.other spellings: aegina townhotels, aeginatownhotell, aegina tow otel, aegina twn hote, agina town hotle
