Introduction to Aegina - Agia Marina
None of Greece's Saronic Gulf islands lie closer to Athens than Aegina, and nowhere else on this island 27kms east of the Greek capital attracts more tourists than the resort of Agia Marina on Aegina's east coast. Agia Marina has long been a popular refuge for Athens residents wishing to escape the bustling city, and many people from Athens even have summer homes in the resort. However, there are also dozens of Agia Marina hotels available to anyone wishing to stay on the island for a brief time period. Although the resort contains just as many cafes, nightclubs, tavernas, and beaches as most other popular Greek resorts, Agia Marina also includes many unique and historic attractions not found anywhere else. The nearby ruined town of Paleohora contains no fewer than 28 ancient churches, and the Doric temple four kilometres north forms a triangle with the far more famous Athens Parthenon and Sounion's Temple of Poseidon. English is widely spoken in the resort. other spellings: agia marinahotels, agiamarinahotell, agia mrina otel, agia maria hote, agia marnia hotle
