Munich Travel Guide
Alpine influences bring winds from the south-west across the Alps, sometimes causing short periods of warm weather (called Fohn), often raising temperatures significantly, even in winter. When north-westerly winds cross the mountains during the spring and summer, a condition known as Alpenstau brings unseasonably low temperatures and rain, or even snow.
The city’s lowest temperatures occur in January, when 5°C is the average. The highest temperatures occur during July and August, when 23°C is average. The Alps are only about on hour from Munich and during optimum conditions, you can enjoy a panoramic view of these spectacular peaks from the city centre.
