Good rail service connects Munich with the rest of Europe and a direct bus service is available from cities such as Brussels, London, Paris and Vienna. If you’re travelling to Munich by car, the routes nearest Munich are the A8, A9, A92 and the A96.
By air: the Munich International Airport (MUC) is Germany’s second-largest airport and the eighth-largest in Europe, with over 500 flights arriving and departing each day. From the UK, service is provided by British Airways, Lufthansa and British Midland and from other international airports, direct flights are handled by Lufthansa.
By bus: bus services are available from London, Paris and many other European cities. The largest UK operator to the continent is Eurolines, departing from London’s centrally-located Victoria Coach Station. In Paris, Eurolines is based on rue Malmaison, which is a 30 minute Metro ride from the centre. Buses arrive in Munich at the Zentraler Busbahnhof, located on the north side of the Hauptbahnhof.
By car: Munich is readily accessible by car from all corners of Europe: the A8 from Stuttgart and Augsburg comes into Munich from the north-west and continues on to Salzburg (Austria); the A9 comes in from the north, originating in Berlin; the A92 and A3 begin in Passau and come into Munich from the east and the A95 comes in from the south-west, originating in Garmisch.
