Spectator and participator sports in Munich: if you like football, athletics, swimming or horse racing, it’s very likely that you will be able to watch professionals compete at the many popular venues. The most well-known of the city’s sporting venues is Olympia Park, situated just outside the city centre. It was built for the Olympic Games held here in 1972 and it continues to be a popular site for sporting events such as athletics and football.
Climbing: before heading off to climb in the Alps, there are good opportunities in the city to get some practice beforehand. At a number of venues, you’ll find climbing walls featuring various degrees of difficulty, as well as instruction and all the necessary gear you’ll need.
Kletterzentrum Munchen is Europe's largest climbing site; Heaven's Gate is more of a climbing centre focused on the fun aspect, with bars and clubs nearby for after-climbing relaxation and MTV is an all-around sports club that offers climbing classes.
