The Altonaer Museum: is a regional museum housing exhibitions on northern Germany’s development as an economic and cultural powerhouse. In particular, the vital contributions of the fishing and shipping industries are highlighted.

The Erotic Art Museum: features artistic and tasteful displays of erotic art through the centuries. This is an interesting and provocative museum, boasting a collection of historic photographs that is visually stunning and of historic interest.
Bernhard Nocht Strasse 69 Open: 10:00 to 12:00, Sunday to Thursday; 10:00 to 13:00, Friday and Saturday.
This new wing features works of modern art from around the world. You’ll also find a substantial collection of the works of artists from the 19th century, including Lovis Corinth, Caspar David Friedrich, Max Liebermann, Adolf Menzel and Philipp Otto Runge.
One of the Kunsthalle’s treasures was involved in the 1994 Frankfurt art theft. Caspar David Friedrich’s painting entitled the ‘Nebelschwaden’ was stolen while on loan to Frankfurt’s Kunsthalle Schirn, but re-purchased from the thieves and returned to its home in Hamburg.

The Museumshafen Oevelgonne: houses a number of historic sailing vessels and exhibits from the marine industries that have been so vital a part of the region’s history and provides an in-depth look at the men and machines that made Germany a world leader in shipping. This naval museum is located at the port and offers walking tours along the Elbe.

The Museum fur Volkerkunde: is an interesting ethnological museum housing a range of exhibits documenting the history of various peoples of the world as well as the growth and development of international cultures.
Rothenbaumchaussee 64 Open: 10:00 to 18:00, Tuesday to Sunday.
All the ships on display are museum-quality examples of the skill of modern artisans to that of 19th-century sailors. Each ship on display is accompanied by a plaque explaining its history and background. You’ll also find a sizable collection of corals and shells from around the world.
