May Festivals

The Long Night of Hamburg Museums: is held annually in early May and follows on the success of similar events that have been held in Berlin and Munich. Many of the city’s museums extend their hours for this special evening, during which many unique exhibits and events are hosted, drawing crowds of over 30,000 every year.
Hamburg Harbour’s Birthday Festival: is celebrated in May each year when Hafen Hamburg celebrates its nautical birthday. This is one of the world’s largest harbour festivals, featuring an extensive programme of entertainment on the water and in the air.
June Festivals

The Dragonboat Festival: in late June brings together 100 teams and thousands of spectators. The rowing course at Allermohe is the venue for this series of events, in which teams in two categories compete for the festival’s top prize.
July Festivals

The Fleetinsel Festival: is Hamburg’s annual celebration along the city’s historic waterways, for ten days every July. The banks of the canals in the centre, the River Elbe and the Alster Lake are all venues for the countless offerings taking place during this special time.
The Alster Fair (Alster-Vergnugen): held over several days at the end of August and beginning of September at the Binnenalster, is Hamburg's main summer festival. The weather is usually fine and this can be a great way to spend a few idyllic days on the banks of the Alster.
The waterfront here is lined with the city’s most stylish buildings and it is against this setting that visitors can enjoy an array of shows and spectacles, ranging from artistic and theatrical performances to the International Fireworks Festival that lights up the sky over the Alster. During the four days of the fair, the entertainment is virtually non-stop.
December Festivals

New Years Fireworks over Hamburg: on New Year’s Eve in Landungsbrucken, there’s a spectacular display of fireworks over the Elbe river, which is quite conveniently located adjacent to the nightlife strip of the Reeperbahn in Hamburg’s St Pauli district.
No Fixed Date

The Hamburg DOM Festival: occurs three times every year, making for the largest fun fair in the country. There are rides, musical events and special attractions for the whole family. The event sees more than nine million visitors attend each year.
