Deutsches Filmmuseum: is a must-see for anyone interested in films. The museum features premieres, themed exhibitions and extensive archives. The collection of animated cartoon director Curt Linda was added to the museum in 1998.
You’ll also find a permanent exhibition devoted to the history and the pre-history of film. Scheduled showings of films from the collection are featured daily.
Schaumainkai 41. Open: 10:00 to 17:00 Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday; 10:00 to 20:00 Wednesday and 14:00 to 20:00 Saturday.
Next door, a display of German paintings and sculpture from the late Baroque to early Romantic periods is also open to visitors. Guided tours of the house are conducted daily at 10:30 and 14:00 and tours of the museum can also be arranged by request.
Grosser Hirschgraben 23-25. Open: 09:00 to 17:30 Monday to Friday; 10:00 to 18:00 Saturday; and 10:00 to 17:30 Sunday.
Museum Judengasse: is devoted to aspects of life in the Jewish ghetto as well as experiences related to the Holocaust. Historians and those with personal connections will appreciate the memories which are so carefully preserved here. The Jewish cemetery adjacent to the museum is home to a Holocaust memorial.
Stadel Art Institute and Municipal Gallery: house comprehensive collections of exemplary European paintings from the 14th to the 20th centuries, in buildings situated on Frankfurt's legendary Museum Embankment.
The works of important German masters, such as Beckmann, Cranac and Holbein are displayed alongside those of Botticelli, Rembrandt and Rubens. Also in the collection are around 500 sculptures from the 19th and 20th centuries, which includes selected works of Kirchner, Picasso and Rodin.
